Is it safe to take birth control pills if you have mitral valve prolapse?

I'm 16... and soon i will be going to the doctor to be prescribed birth control or hopefully. I have been going out with my boyfriend for a year, and im ready to take the next step. I plan on using double protection, birth control and condom. Though my mother who is a nurse, told me that the doctor has to give me the okay for birth control pills because i have mitral valve prolapse, though i have a less severe type, i think its called nonclassic. I was wondering if i will be able to take birth control pills because of this? or am i restricted to only certain types of birth control pills?
